As educators learn in on-line courses, interacting with colleagues throughout the country and indeed the world, they gain facility in online collaboration and sharing. Graduates of online courses and certification programs can emerge, not only with knowledge, but also with an openness to taking on leadership roles in on-line learning communities. Yeshiva University School Partnership has been creating a system of ongoing learning for teachers by connecting professional on-line certification programs with on-line Communities of Practice, creating potent synergy. The connection offers opportunities for leadership among students and graduates of the certification programs, and provides a venue for members of the Communities of Practice to extend their learning. In this presentation we will share our experiences as facilitators of formal (certificate program) and informal (CoP) educational experiences working in synergy. We'll explore ways educators can deepen their own learning and make an impact in the broader field through participation in on-line certification programs and on-line Communities of Practice.
