Dr. Abhilash Nayak received his education from SKCG College, Utkal University, Bhubaneswar and Sambalpur University, Sambalpur. He joined as a Lecturer in English at Indravati Project College, Khatiguda and later joined Balimela College of Science and Technology, Balimela, malkangiri, Odisha. While working in this college, he undertook the responsibility of opening an IGNOU Special Study Centre in a private college like Balimela College of Science and Technology, Balimela and successfully carried out his responsibilities as a Coordinator until 31 December 2002 when he resigned to join as a faculty in Government PG College, Sector-46 Chandigarh. Later on he was transferred to Regional Institute of English, Chandigarh where, during this tenure, he worked extensively on the different dimensions of ELT and developed materials for the benefit of the teacher trainees. He worked there until he was appointed as a Regional Director of IGNOU. He joined Regional Centre, Koraput as the Regional Director on 22nd December 2008. During his tenure as a Regional Director he has been instrumental in establishing Study Centres at Gunupur, Junagarh, Mathili, Jagdalpur, Jeypore, Nandapur and Dasmantapur, Central Jail, Koraput and special Programme Centres for Management, Law and Engineering Programmes at Jagdalpur, Jeypore and Jagdalpur respectively. At the Regional Centre, besides overall administration, he has been engaged in establishing new centres in inaccessible areas and exploring possibilities of academic collaboration with institutions and organisations of national and international repute for activating new programmes, designing and developing need-based programmes and providing training facilities. As a part of the academic collaboration of the Regional Centre with UNICEF, he has successfully organised the Orientation in English Language Teaching for the teachers working under the Department of ST/SC Development and School and Mass Education, Government of Odisha. He has authored two books , namely Kalyani Practical English Grammar and Communicate Effectively in English and has published many research and general articles in English and Odia in reputed newspapers and journals. He has also worked as the General Editor(Language) for a series of text books in English(PEARLS), published by Future Kids Publications, New Delhi. He has guided many scholars towards MPhil and PhD Degrees under various universities. His areas of interest include Distance and Online Education, Linguistics and Language Teaching, Feminist Studies and Indian Writing in English.
